Overview:
Nelson's debut novel looks the modern Black experince as our main character lives and works in London. He navigates through friendships, relationships and the fear that being Black and different can bring to someone living in the UK. The story follows our main character as he finds the person he knows he has to be with, what happens next I'll have to let you read to find out but it's not a smooth road for sure.
Personal Thoughts:
Don't be fooled by the short number of pages in the book, those 145 pages ready to pack a punch to the gut. This book hit differently, it's not a happy romance but it sure is dripping with emotion. This is love written differently. There's lust, love, longing, desperation, despair and greif all packed in and it really will leave you gasping for air.
The writing style is so unique, there's a drive and rhythm to his work that's almost poetic. It keeps you reading, hungry for more. I can't wait to see what else he produces.
Would I read it again? Yes. It's a relatively short read and it's such a unique style of writing, I'll definitely come back to it.
